Asbestos soffits, gutters, fascias and cladding removal in Manchester
Garages and houses with asbestos roofs often have asbestos in the soffits, gutters, downpipes or cladding as well. These should come out with the roof, not be left behind.

Asbestos cement was used for gutters, downpipes, flue pipes, wall panels and under-eaves boards on many mid-century buildings around Manchester. They behave like the roof sheets: low risk when intact, but sensitive to drilling, cutting and power-washing.
A contractor samples and removes them as part of the same job, using wet methods and wrapped waste. Doing it together means fitting new rainwater goods and a new fascia straight after.
How the job runs
- 1
Identify every material
The roof, soffits, gutters and cladding are checked and sampled where needed.
- 2
Remove in sequence
Components are unfixed whole, lowered by hand and double-wrapped.
- 3
Make good
New fascias, soffits and gutters are fitted so the building is weathertight.
- 4
Clear and certify
Waste leaves with a registered carrier and you receive the paperwork.
What affects the price
- Length of gutters and eaves
- Height and scaffold needs
- Number of cladding panels
- New soffit, fascia and gutter specification
- Whether the roof is being removed at the same time
Common questions
Can the gutters stay if the roof comes off?
They should be sampled. If they are asbestos cement, taking them off with the roof is better than leaving them.
Can I wash the cladding?
Please do not power-wash it. That releases fibres. Ask a contractor.
